LEARNING ENGLISH LANGUAGE
In Indonesia, English language is a foreign language. Usually, it used in many aspects such as technology, business, economic, and education. So, it can say that English language is one of foreign languages which important. Remember the English language is important of people so, they have to increase their English language skills by learning. They have to learn 4 skills, such as listening, speaking, writing, and reading.
In learning English language skill is often founded many problems. For example; when students learned speaking or writing, they couldn’t speak fluently or they couldn’t write appropriate with the grammar in English language. They still used grammar likes first language. It means that, the first language can be impacted to use English language. Krashen said that if every one learns foreign language, they will be followed grammar that same with learning first language. So, the using of first language has to minimize in English class. However, it is still needed in explaining new vocabulary in learning English language. According gentolon in Schweer (2010) “the using first language has led to positive attitudes toward the process of learning English and better yet, encourages students to learn more English”.
Usually, the situation of using first language is still founded in English class. It will be used if students are confused about what the teacher says or they used it when they didn’t know regarding what they say during process learning English language. Sometimes, they like to use English only in the process English language but some of them disagree to use English only. From the result of interview with a student in English department, Hasriwati Nuku (2012) said that she likes to use first language in learning English language because it will be helped her to understand about text reading and what the lecturer say but it will be given negative impact to speak and writing english language. When students speak by using english language, they are still used first language’s grammar. So, it means they cannot speak fluently and proficiency. from the brief explain above, it can conclude that learning english language should be use first language and a target language (english language). It has purpose to make the effectiveness of learning english language.
